Pet Grooming Brush

One of the healthiest, most relaxing ways to interact with your pet is to give them a regular brushing with a good pet grooming brush. Not only does it stimulate their circulation, help get rid of old, loose hair, mats and knots, it also promotes a healthy, lustrous coat.

While it may be tempting to use one of your old brushes or combs on your pet, just remember that an animal's scalp and coat are very different from humans'.

Not only do animals differ from humans, but they are also quite different from each other.

When you think about the curly hair of a poodle, the long silky hair of an Afghan hound, the short wiry coat of a terrier, or the thick, wavy coat of a Cocker Spaniel, it becomes apparent that a one-size-fits-all approach to using a dog grooming brush isn't very practical.

In order to meet the needs of differing coats, a pet grooming brush will commonly fall into three categories: bristle, slicker and wire pin.

For general grooming, trimming prep and styling, you find bristle brushes to be a versatile tool.

Coats that are thick or wooly are more easily managed with a wire pin dog grooming brush. These are available with or without rubber-tipped pins.

Finally, if your pet has a dense undercoat, the finer wire bristles of a slicker brush penetrate through the thick hair to produce a thorough brushing result.

The type and length of your pet's coat is also going to be clue for how often you should brush.

Long coats need to be brushed daily to in order to prevent matting and tangling, which can lead to stressful, painful brushing...or worse...a trip to vet where they have to be sedated before brushing.

You can also expect changes in the pet's coat during the change of seasons. They will lose their winter coat in spring, and their coat will begin to thicken-up in autumn for the approaching winter cold.

In any and all cases, regular use of a pet grooming brush helps your pet become comfortable with the process. You may even find that they will come to enjoy the relaxing attention.
